G.L.O.R.Y. Wrestling...the hardest working women in professional wrestling!

Interview with Vanessa Harding

March 24, 2004 (10:37am): Patch: Vanessa Harding, hello and welcome to Squared Circle News and to Patch's Place. Thanks for coming in to talk some wrestling with me. It is nice to meet you.

Vanessa: I always LOVE to talk wrestling, for the past year it is the biggest part of my life. I eat, sleep, and dream wrestling. I train 4-5 days a week, do 1-2 shows a weekend, then watch tapes to get better the rest of the time. :)

Patch: Would you tell our readers a little bit about yourself, height, hometown, years involved in wrestling and hobbies away from wrestling? You know, the good stuff.

Vanessa: 5'7", 127 lbs. I live in St. Pete, FL, but I consider Atlanta where I am from. I have lived there the longest of any of my various homes. Away from wrestling, hobbies are...reading, surfing the net, watching videos and movies at home, cooking, SLEEPING. I had valeted for 2 years and have trained to wrestle for about a year.

Patch: How did you decide to get involved in wrestling? Was it something you've always wanted to do?

Vanessa: I watched Dusty Rhodes on Championship Wrestling from Florida when I lived in Zephyr Hills (home of the water and not much else). I never really thought of women in that sport. Then I went through a long time where I thought it was kinda silly. It wasn't until one of my ex boyfriends had me sit down and watch it with him that I realized how cool and how very athletic it was. I got sucked into the story and then I thought it would be easy just to go do it. WRONG!!! How wrong I was on that one.

Patch: Whoh trained you for your career and what was it like for you?

Vanessa: I have been trained by a lot of workers. Dory Funk, Jr., Navy Seal, Pat Powers, all the trainers at IPW. But my real training came from Black Knight and Robbie Chance. Everywhere I go I get people wanting to show me new things. Mana from the Samoan Island Tribe, who I worked with on MLW shows; Virgil, who I met at Dragon Con when I got to work with Trinity; Al Hardeman, who worked with me on making my kicks stiffer. Everyone is always willing to help. I am still training, still getting better, and that is a process that should never stop. There are always so many things to learn, you could be here for 30 years and still not know every move, every considering I am only a year or so here, I don't know $h*t yet.. Ha ha!

Patch: Vanessa, I have to ask, what was running through your mind when you worked your first show?

Vanessa: I was terrified, excited, I wanted to get in there, then I wanted to run away...most of all I did not want to screw up TOO bad!

Patch: Who are you currently managing?

Vanessa: I currently manage Heartbreak Express, sometimes known as the Davis Brothers, Robbie Chance, Kevin Rhodes, and Magnum Steele, my newest addition is Sexy Lexie Fyfe. I will be cutting back my managing as I wrestle more and more matches.

Patch: Do you work as a baby or heel, and which do you like best and why?

Vanessa: I prefer heel, I just look like a bad girl. I am a terrible cheerleader. I generally work as a cowardly heel, with a bit of comedy thrown in. I will scream like a girl, beg for the face not to hit me, then when the face lets me go (they always do, because the good guys are so dumb) and I then nail him with a superkick as he turns around.

Patch: How long have you been working for IPW-Hardcore? (Note: IPW-Hardcore is now out of business)

Vanessa: I started working for them in October of last year, I left to get training else where. There were no politics involved, just the desire to be a better wrestler. I was with them for 6 or 8 months. I got to manage Mideon under IPW and work against Danny Doring. I have some great memories from my time at IPW.

Patch: Which other promotions do you currently work for?

Vanessa: FIP (Full Impact Pro), POW, NWA-CFL, CWF, FSPW (Four Star), FSPW (Future Stars), CWF of South Florida, and I am the ring girl for MLW~Major League Wrestling, which you can see on the Sunshine Network on Monday nights!

Patch: Do you ever involve yourself in your charges' matches to help them pull off a victory?

Vanessa: I do whatever it takes, if it is holding a leg down, a stiff kick on the outside, a choke on the rope, a gouge to the eyes, a Hennig neck breaker, whatever it takes to make my charge the victor. I never cheat, as least not if the ref is watching. I get SO sick of people saying that I am an unfair advantage....So you can just SHUT YOUR....

Patch: Whoa! Hold it, I am just doing my job by asking these questions!

Vanessa: Yeah, well, you better make it a bit more civil and a bit less nosey..

Patch: Ok, Ok, on to another question. What has been the best match you've worked so far?

Vanessa: I really enjoyed working with Trinity at Dragon Con, she and I beat the heck out of each other! I had bruises for a week afterwards. It was great. I love watching her on NWA-TNA and getting to be in a show with her was a great honor!

Patch: What about the worst match?

Vanessa: first was really bad. A three-way with me, another green girl against a guy...we all 3 got totally lost during it. But, hey, the crowd still liked it...I have never seen a copy of it, and I don't want to.

Patch: Vanessa, tell me what it's like to work with my friend, The Nighthawk?

Vanessa: It is always great to work with him, he saw me at the beginning, and it is nice to be able to show someone how you have improved. He is a joy to watch with his technical know-how, I love the mat workers. The ones not caught up in high spot after high spot, Nighthawk tells a story and brings the audience along for the ride...

Patch: Describe the lady behind Vanessa Harding.

Vanessa: Soft, funny, and sensitive, with the brain of a nerd, and kind of a clumsy dork when no one is watching.

Patch: Vanessa, we give the stars that we talk with a chance here to say whatever they want about the wrestling business, be it good/bad or however you see it. This is your chance, Vanessa. Shoot...

Vanessa: I wish there were a lot less politics and people could mind their own business and not gossip so much.

Patch: Where can fans find you on the web, if they want to learn more about you?

Patch: Any final comments or thoughts?

Vanessa: I love meeting my fans, I have not been around long, but I guarantee that you will have fun when you watch me in the squared circle inside wrestling or on the outside managing.

Patch: Vanessa Harding, thanks again for doing this interview. It was nice to meet you, and I do wish you the best.

Vanessa: Thanks for having me. Be sure to check out my web to see where I will be near you!
