Angel Survives A "Rain Of Fire"
Today's POD comes to us courtesy of Ed Darcey, who provides the pictures and write-up from this past weekend's WSU Championship Match in Brooklyn, New York...
While the PGWA and WXW were running their extravaganzas this weekend, the Northeast was treated to a WSU Championship match in a borough that does not see much women's professional wrestling: Brooklyn, New York!
WSU's Women's Champion, Angel "Riptide" Orsini, was challenged by newcomer Reyna Fyre...a protege of Angel's arch nemesis Mercedes Martinez. Ms. Fyre, beyond just lusting for the gold, had a score or two to settle with Orsini. At a recent WSU/NWS show, Angel had attacked Reyna before a match with an opponent other than herself and injured her to the point where Fyre forfeited the match and was out of action for a number of weeks. The aptly named redhead was itching to take it to Angel, as you can tell from her pre-match demeanor.
While showing disdain for her opponent and berating the crowd, Orsini made the mistake of mounting the ropes and turning her back on the Redhead. Fyre proceeded to take Angel down and got a couple of near falls, before tossing Orsini over the ringside barricades and into the audience. Reyna eventually tossed the dazed veteran back into the ring but was unable to get the three count. Stunned by the onslaught, the champ was able to fend off a vicious bulldog, catch Fyre with a boot to the midsection and then apply her finisher, The Kiss of Death, leaving the new gal stunned and dazed...but still with plenty of fight in her for the next go round.
Angel ought to a bit more cautious, as who knows who else is lining up to challenge her for her belt. With a cage match set for January 10th against Martinez, Angel best be careful in the intervening two months about who she takes on and how she approaches those bouts...else she may not have a title to defend in the steel cage come the New Year!
