Vet Whoopin'?
Yesterday we told you about the match that took place at MLW's latest event, pitting rookie Athena against former-WWE star and certain future Hall Of Famer Jazz. We titled that POD Rookie Whoopin'? After all, what else should we have expected in such a match-up?
And that's exactly how things started out when the bell sounded for these two ladies. Jazz took control with a side headlock and some arm work that had the rookie on her knees in pain. What was a little surprising was that Jazz's work was completely legal. Tough, but legal. The bigger surprise came from Athena...who let loose with a shot to the side of Jazz's head before grabbing a handful of hair and backing the veteran into the ropes. The rookie was the first to throw the rule book out the window. But maybe not such a smart idea when the other lady in the ring is named Jazz! Athena had to know that her opponent would make her pay for these tactics the first chance she got.
Still, Athena doubled-down on the questionable strategy. Taking the weakened Jazz to the mat with a front facelock, it looks to us like Athena may be sneaking a little bit of a choke in there away from the eyes of the referee. That smile in today's final picture sure looks like someone who's getting away with something, doesn't it?
So far, it's the vet who's getting a whoopin' in this match! But can it continue? More tomorrow...
