Arm Destruction

Yesterday we promised to show you some of the action from the Danyah vs. Haley Rogers (a.k.a. Cat Power) match at last month's SHIMMER event in Berwyn, Illinois. So here we go!

The match between the two G.L.O.R.Y. Girls starts off with both ladies displaying their technical grappling abilities. First to strike is Danyah as she captures Haley in a tight side headlock. From the look on Rogers' face, it's obvious that this is no ordinary headlock. Danyah is not just using it to control her opponent, she's using it to actually do damage to her skull and neck. That's not hard to imagine. Pound for pound, Danyah is one of the strongest, most-fit ladies on the G.L.O.R.Y. roster. The squeezing strength of her biceps, triceps and forearms certainly could cause plenty of damage.

So what is Haley Rogers to do? Let's take a look...

How To Destroy An Arm: Lesson 1

Haley Rogers doesn't do anything fancy. She doesn't try to implement some intricate, complicated or convoluted plan to defeat her opponent. She makes a very pragmatic decision: "She's hurting me with her arm...so let's just put that arm out of commission."

Twisting her way out of Danyah's headlock, Haley spins and twists her body away from the hold...but she makes sure to take the blonde's arm with her. Rotating the wrist and bending the arm at an awkward angle, Rogers will soon have her opponent in pain with a well-executed hammerlock.

How To Destroy An Arm: Lesson 2

Taking Danyah to the mat, Haley decides to get brutal...switching from a technical attack to something more effective (and painful!). Rogers stretches out the arm that was torturing her only moments before and slams down on it with a brutal kneedrop. Notice how the brunette targets her blow...driving the knee directly into Danyah's well-developed bicep to deliver the most pain possible.

How To Destroy An Arm: Lesson 3

After bruising Danyah's left bicep muscle with that kneedrop, Rogers decides to go to work on the joints. Look at how she goes to the mat and folds up the limb in an unnatural position. Rogers is intent as she works the hold...a hold that has Danyah's shoulder, elbow and wrist stretched to the point where permanent damage is a real possibility!

How To Destroy An Arm: Lesson 4

The final lesson for destroying an arm apparently is to enjoy it! With her opponent suffering on the mat, Haley really leans into it to cause maximum pain. Look at how she raises up to her toes, widens her base on the mat and drives her entire body into the maneuver. The hold has Danyah screaming in agony as she flails on the mat and tries to ease the torture on her arm and shoulder. Haley's reaction? A satisfied smile knowing that she's got her opponent hurting in a big way!
